Fun-runners in 10km event

Many fun-runners are among the 74 entrants in today’s Front Runner 10km "Big Dipper" race. The oldest runner to enter is Tom Bain, aged 70, who runs for the Christchurch club. The race is being held for the second year and gives unregistered runners the chance to compete in a 10km

race along with registered tunners. The Canterbury veteran Bkm road championship will be held in conjunction with the Big Dipper, over an Bkm course. Late entries will be accepted until just before the start and the organisers are expecting the total to exceed 100. Some of the veterans are expected to compete in their Bkm race at 12.30 p.m., then

join in the 10km fun run at 2 p.m. Both events start from the top of the hill to the right of the Sign of the Kiwi and follow a route along the Summit Road in the direction of the Sign of the Bellbird, then return. Races for under 12-year-olds and under 16-year-olds will also start at 2 p.m.
