Andropov chosen
NZPA Moscow The Communist Party Politburo member, Yuri Andro-' pov, aged 68, was elected general secretary of the Soviet Communist Party late last evening, in succession to Mr Brezhnev. The announcement was made early this morning, N.Z. time. Mr Andropov, a former chairman of the K.G.8., was elected unanimously at a special session of the party’s Central Committee in Moscow, said the official news agency, Tass. It said that Mr Andropov had been by his Politburo colleague, Mr Konstantin Chernenko, aged 71, widely considered as Mr Andropov’s main rival Search for successor, page 8
