Golf title to Stanley
NZPA Adelaide A Victorian golfer. lan Stanley, had to concentrate under great pressure to grab his first big win in three years in the $lOO,OOO Westpac Golf Classic in Adelaide, yesterday. Stanley chipped in from off the green at the last hole to clinch a three-stroke win over a Tasmanian. Stewart Ginn, who had chased him through an exciting last day. Stanley finished with a oneunder 72 for a total of 285, seven tinder par. and his biggest pay cheque: $lB,OOO.
Ginn, who began the day six strokes behind Stanley on level par, fired an excellent 69 in the gusty conditions to close four under the card on 288. An Payne Stewart, had a level par 73 yesterday for 291 and third place, two ahead of Western Australia's Graham* Marsh,. A New South Welshman. Jack Newton, who had started the day three strokes. behind Stanley in second place, crashed with a 78 to tie with the New Zealander. Bob Charles, on 294. two over the card
