I.H.C. appeal planned

The Canterbury branch of the Society of the Intellectually Handicapped is putting a big effort into improving its appeal proceeds next year.

The society wants to reach $lOO,OOO in its house-to-house appeal, compared with the $89,700 collected in Canterbury this year. . .

The branch held its first promotional evening thisweek for about 70 people involved in organising the appeals. ’

The programme included video and slides, a discussion on appeal organisation, and the presentation of certificates to firms and indivi-

duals who contributed to this year’s appeal. The branch’s public relations officer, Mr H. A. Clark, said it would have to raise more than $240,000 in the next financial year, including’ the appeal takings, to cover increased costs and expanding services.

Mr Clark said the branch would spend about $2.4 million next year, most of which would come from Government grants, and fees. The rest would come from the appeal, donations, bequests, and fund-raising. Mr Clark said essential continuing development would be curtailed if this amount were not raised.
