Inquiry into Welfare homes delivered

PA Wellington The results of an inquiry into Social Welfare Departnient homes have been given to the Government -.The one-man .inquiry by the Most Rev. A. H. Johnston. was set. up by the Minister of Social Welfare, Mr Young, in September after strong criticism by the Human Rights Commission. Archbishop Johnston delivered his’report to Parliament on Friday but his findingsjmay not be made public

for some time. Mr Young will consider the findings before taking the report to the Cabinet. Archbishop Johnston was asked to look at practices and procedures in Social Welfare institutions. Many of the Human Rights Commission's criticisms were directed at practices which were to have been stopped some years ago. Archbishop Johnston was asked to discover if any of those practices were continuing.
