Renwick turns professional

Steve Renwick, the New Zealand welterweight representative at the Commonwealth Games boxing tournament in Brisbane will return to Australia in December to enter the professional ranks.
But Renwick is still being troubled by the injury he suffered against the eventual gold medallist. Christopher Pyatt, of England, at the Games.
An Oceania champion and twice winner of the Jameson Belt at national tournaments, Renwick, aged 22, was regarded as a potential medalwinner at Brisbane. However, he had the misfortune to draw the very impressive Pyatt in his first appearance. Reqwick was already heading for a unanimous points loss when he injured his right ankle late in the contest.
At first the mishap was diagnosed as torn ligaments and the ankle was placed in plaster. A later examination revealed that the ankle was heavily sprained. Renwick announced on his
return from Brisbane that he intended to fight professionally, and that he hoped to ma'ke his debut in Wellington. his home city. The Wellington association was keen to promote a bout. But Renwick has not been able to resume training or road work because of swelling of the injured ankle and the chances of his competing before his departure to Australia are receding
