General forecast: In the North Island, occasional showers in most places with gusty westerly winds, but mainly fine in Gisborne and Hawke’s Bay. with perhaps a change to cold southerlies in Wellington. In the South Island, strong cold southerlies in the south and east with rain, and show down to 500 m. Mainly fine on the West Coast and in Nelson; a few showers still likely, particularly in the ranges. District forecast: Canterbury; Strong, cold winds from the south with further showers or rain and snow about the high country.

Marlborough: Fresh westerlies predominating with isolated showers, chiefly in the ’ ranges; however, strong, cold south-wester-lies with more widespread showers are likely on the Kaikoura coast. Nelson, Buller: Moderate or fresh westerlies tending south-west; variable skies with occasional showers, chiefly in the ranges; rather cold. Westland: Moderate winds from the south with some cloudy areas and snow showers in the Alps, otherwise fine.
