Games uniforms
Sir,—Like Rebecca Perkins (October 15) I was disgusted by the uniforms worn by the New Zealand Commonwealth Games team. I was even more disgusted by the article about the cost of medals (“The Press,” October 15). The average cost to the country of $6600 must be a mere “drop in the bucket,” when compared with the amount of time and money that each of these dedicated young people must have spent on preparing themselves for the seemingly dubious honour of representing our country. Congratulations to them all. I, for one, do not begrudge any of my taxes that may have helped these meh and women to win their medals, and by their achievements to have fostered the cause of greater international understanding and friendship—Yours, etc., J. CARR. October 5, 1982.
