Receiver ‘on to a good thing’
PA Auckland A woman received property valued about $2500 stolen from L. D. Nathan, Ltd, by an employee, the District Court at Otahuhu has been told. Sergeant M. A. O'Hagen told the Court that Lorris Bernadette Fakaosilea, aged 38, a beneficiary, of Otara, had been buying the goods cheaply for herself and later for resale. She told the police she “thought she was on to a good thing." Fakaosilea pleaded guilty to a charge of receiving 79 items, including electrical goods, crystal, and linen, between July and October 13. Judge Duncan remanded her on bail to October 28 for sentence. Sergeant O'Hagen told the Court that in July, Fakaosilea had met a man who offered her cheap clothing and implied he could get a variety of goods cheaply. The man, who has appeared in court on a charge of theft as a servant, had told her the goods were
being stolen from his work. He gave her goods until September, when she began to ask him for a lot of items. Sergeant O'Hagen said she was aware by then that the man was employed by L. D. Nathan. Ltd. All the property was recovered when the police executed a search warrant. Sergeant O’Hagen said the defendant told the police she started buying the items for personal use and later for resale. She was then taking orders for them. She had told the police she was sorry for what she had done but thought she was “on to a good thing." An employee of L. D. Nathan, Ltd, also appeared in the Court on a charge of stealing five pairs of socks and three pairs of shorts, the property of his employer. He is Brian Edward Roebeck, aged 25, a storeman, of Manurewa, who was remanded without plea to October 20. « Roebeck was the . thir- ' teenth employee of the company to appear on charges of theft as a servant.
