Sir Jack Butland
Sir Jack Rutland, a founding partner of Rothmans Tobacco, Ltd. intends to retire at the company’s annual meeting on November 5. the Rothmans annual report said. He is a director of the company. Sir Jack’s association with the company dates from 1935, when he and Mr Sydney Rothman, the principal of Rothmans, Ltd, of London, at that time a small independent cigarette manufacturer, established' a partnership under the style Rothmans Tobacco. Ltd. to import anti manufacture Rothmans brands in New Zealand. After 20 years manufacturing began in New Zealand.
The ailing National Tobacco Company in Napier was acquired" with public participation and from this. today’s diversified business has been built. The Rothmans report shows that at balance date there were 5913 ordinary shareholders, holding the 1 29,053,971 shares on issue. The only shareholders with more than 5 per cent of the voting capital are K. D. Butland with 3,116.095 shares and Magnum Investments. Ltd. of Auckland, with 4.661,508. (Magnum is understood to represent Rothmans International Investments. Ltd, London).
