Auckland girl leads sailing

PA Auckland Santha Patel, of Auckland. is leading after the fourth race in the board sailing event at the women's world sailing championships in Acapulco, the New Zealand Yachting Federation announced yesterday. Miss Patel took first place in the second race, second in race three and first in race four. Jenny Mclver, of Auckland. the other New Zealander in the 12-race series has placings of 9, 10, and 9. The first race was abandoned after time expired. The three New Zealand teams competing in both the 470 and the Laser events are having problems adjusting to the local conditions the federation report said. Although Patel’s performance has been unaffected, the local

light hot airs are unfamiliar to the New Zealanders. The Auckland combination of Fiona Gallowav (skipper) and Joanne O'Reilly have placings of 16 and 21 after two of the seven-race series. Jessica Trotter (skipper), of Auckland, and Jan Shearer. Auckland, were close behind with finishing places of 20 and 22. Sue Higgins (skipper), of Wellington, and Michelle Holland, of Christchurch, results are: disqualified, and 24. Sue Conroy, of Timaru, one of three New Zealanders sailing a Laser in difficult, hot light airs, achieved a fifth placing in the first race of the series and twentysixth place in race two. Other placings are: Joanna Stewart, of Taupo, 31, 13; Lois Dye, of Auckland, 26, 33.
