Cyclist critically injured
NZPA Brisbane Doctors at the Royal Brisbane Hospital have performed ten hours of surgery on the Australian cycling champion. Gary Hammond—critically injured on the eve of the Brisbane-Sydney cycling marathon. A hospital spokesman said that Hammond, a silver medallist at the - Com-
monwealth Games, was in the operating theatre until 2.30 a.m. yesterday after being struck by a motorcycle during a time-trial race in Brisbane on Monday. , Hammond, aged 22, suffered head injuries and multiple fractures in the accident but his immediate condition was not known.
