N.Z. finishes last

NZPA Washington The New Zealand women’s hockey team lost, 1-4, to the United States yesterday to finish last in the four nation America Cup tournament in Boston. The Netherlands won the tournament with a 3-0 win over Australia. The play-off for third and fourth position pitted New Zealand against the United States for the third time on the tour. In both previous

games New Zealand held the Americans to a draw. The Americans’ goals all came from penalty corners. New Zealand officials say the feature of the tournament was the even standard of play among the four teams and that “it is heartening for New Zealand hockey to have proven that we are up there with the world’s best.” The players will arrive back in Auckland on Friday morning.
