Jockey’s future in doubt

NZPA Melbourne The controversial Australian jockey, Mick Mallyon, has his riding future in doubt. Kilmore stewards yesterday charged Mallyon under Australian Rule of Racing 175 (j), with insulting behaviour in the mounting yard, scale and jockey’s room at its meeting on August 7. Mallyon pleaded guilty to the charge. However, after taking medical evidence from Mallyon's doctor. Howard Toyne, the stewards decided to take no action against Mallyon. The stewards have referred the matter to the V.R.C. committee for its consideration when reviewing any application from Mallyon to be relicensed after his present suspension expires on October 8. Mallyon was upset after being told of the stewards’ decision and would not speak to the press. However, Dr Toyne did say that Mallyon had been under a lot of stress and had .

In one charge stewards alleged he elbowed jockey Paul Jarman t during the event. Mallyon appealed and was granted a stay of proceedings and rode at Caulfield and Kilmore.
