A black and white striped awning softens the classical severity of the old Public Library building in Cambridge Terrace and provides shelter from rain and sun. The bricks have been spruced up and the Oamaru stone trim cleaned by hand to avoid damaging the delicate scroll work. The stone has crumbled in places but the decay has not compromised the effect from the street.
