Another four weeks work should see the completion of a $145,772 Christchurch Drainage Board contract to replace the stretch of drain, about 90 years old. with a larger and deeper concrete pipe between Manchester and Cornwall Streets. A board spokesman said that many of the city’s old drains were still in good condition, but in this case, the shallowness of the drain and increasing traffic in St Albans meant that parts could cave in at any time.
