Helpers flock to Opunake school
PA New Plymouth Taranaki has rallied behind the fire-devastated Opunake High School. Offers of assistance with replacing books and equipment poured in as a team of more than 60 volunteers and 12 special employment workers worked hard to clear the mess of Saturday's $3 million blaze. “The help has been beyond imagination," said the principal. Mr Ron Burrow, yesterday. “Almost every tradesman in Opunake is here. They have just dropped ever-
ything to come and help. It's been just marvellous." The fire swept through the school in the early hours of Saturday .morning, destroying 11 of the 33 rooms as well as the administration block, assembly hall and library. Mr Burrow said about 60 people arrived on Saturday afternoon and Sunday to help with cleaning up, and the same number, including tradesmen and a number of school pupils, were back at the school yesterday.
