Established

The first shop ,to open in the new complex is certainly the most unusual. The Judi Bowls TACK SHOP apparently sells every specialist item a pony rider could want, from books and riders’ apparel — such as jodhpurs, jackets, boots, gloves and headgear — to pony care products, such as Neatsfoot oil, curry combs and hoof black.

There are fitting room facilities for riders and very nearly the same for ponies. Judi has a wealth of experience to draw on in advising people on suitable pony gear and aims to give "total service" to her customers. Not only does Judi have her own saddle pony stud (Grangelands), she also has a riding school, called the Thornton Grange Riding

Centre, at 432 Sparks Road. The Tack Shop has everything for the well-equipped pony — halters, bridles, saddles of many styles, girths, shoes, summer and winter rugs, and even sheepskin "numnahs."

Jean Keerie’s DRAPERY AND VARIETY SHOP concentrates mainly on knitting yarns and accessories and ladies' and children's fashions.

The wools include Kaiapoi Glenmist, Aotea Lyric, Sirdar Country Style' Paton's Caressa and Fontana’s Softly Softly.

There is also Sirdar Wash-n-Wear for people who are unable to wear natural fibre garments.

There are pretty summer dresses and sunfrocks at sensible prices, blouses. Tshirts. skirts, nightwear, petticoats, briefs and panti-hose.

The children's clothes include romper suits and little girls’ dresses adorned with delightful applique work.

The CAROUSEL BOOKSHOP has a huge selection ol magazines and paperbacks, many hard-backs, and an interesting variety of both games and jig-saws. There are popular novels, children’s learner books and adventure stories, and a wide range of colour-plate books on topics as different as homecrafts and aeroplanes, cooking and ski-ing. plants and pets.

The trade-in section has proved particularly popular at other Carousel stores and is expected to do well here, too.

Carousel also stocks posters, "colour-mes." postcards. notepaper, special occasion cards, gift wrap and some art prints.

Equally worth a mention is the big selection of photograph albums.
