Tax hearing adjourned

PA Auckland The preliminary hearing of charges against a Remuera chartered accountant and his secretary of tax law violations involving almost $500,000 has been adjourned until November 22. Kenneth Douglas Mexted. aged 38. and Lorraine Ivy Heskett. aged 37. face- 24 joint charges of theft by misappropriation involving tax.

Mexted also faces 30 individual charges of theft, some involving tax and others relating to companies and investments.

The hearing began on September 2. and was expected to last a fortnight. Evidence was heard from persons who were named as complainants under the joint tax charges. They said that they had sent cheques to Mexted to be paid to the Inland Revenue Department for tax. but the payments were not made.
