Squid quotas

Parliamentary reporter Quotas for the 1982-83 squid season have been set at the same level, 90,000 tonnes, as last year. ■ ' ; The squid stock in the .exclusive economic zone was still ■ assessed at 600,000 tonnes, said the Minister Of Fisheries, Mr Maclntyre. The 90,000-tonne quota would be divided in the same way as previously. There would be a jigging allocation for the whole zone of 40.000 tonnes, and a trawl allocation of 50,000 tonnes made up

of 30,000 tonnes to be taken from waters around the Auckland Islands and Campbell Island and 20,000 tonnes to be taken elsewhere. Japan, "South Korea, and Russia would again be allowed to trawl for about 23,000 tonnes, he said. The domestic and joint venture fleets would have access to the remaining' 27.000 or so tonnes. Mr Maclntyre , said details of areas in which foreign trawl catches could be taken would be announced later.
