Sykes beaten on points
Michael Sykes, the last New Zealander to enter the Commonwealth Games boxing ring, was beaten on points by the Australian lightweight champion. Brian Tmk. last night.
A place-getter at, world championship level. Tink staggered Sykes with a vicious opening onslaught and it seemed the
southpaw from Rotorua would be knocked out.
That Sykes not only restricted Tink to a points victory, but actually won the last round, testified to Ins courage. That, however, was not enough for Sykes to avoid becoming 'he fourth of the six New Zealanders to be eliminated
