NZPA Sydney Gurner's Lane is poised to give, his New Zealand based sire Sir Tristram a magnificent week-end double by winning the $120,000 Metropolitan Handicap (2600 m at Randwick today. Sir Tristram's son Dalmatia easily won the $120,000 Epsom Handicap (1600 m at Randwick on Saturday and the Victorian-trained Gurner's Lane (9 to 2 favourite) appears "Trained to the minute" as well to score his most important success. The Geoff Murphy-pre-pared Gurner’s Lane returned to his best form to win the $70,000 Winfield Gold Cup (2300 m at Newcastle on September 15. Shamrock (8 to 1) and Clive Comet (15 to 1) are the two New Zealand-owned and trained gallopers in the Metropolitan and they cannot be left out of calculations.
