Colts bring $28,000 at Te Rapa
PA Hamilton Colts by Wharf and Zamazaan shared the highest price of $28,000 at the Dalgety Bloodstock ready to run sales at Te Rapa’ yesterday. Offered on account of the Lee Stables, Wellington, an attractive dark brown colt by Wharf went to the bid of bloodstock agent. Ken Sheeran, acting on behalf of Singapore trainer, Ivan Allen. The colt is from Clandara, a winning daughter of Sobig and the champion mare Challen, which was by Ruthless. Challen's first three foals to race. Goodbye Sailor, Gaither and Pride of Rosewood have all met with success on the track, and
another, Admiral Lincoln, has shown plenty of promise on a handful of starts to date in Australia. The Zamazaan colt from the Australian-bred mare Little Slindy was offered on account of the Kenamon Lodge. Papakura. the property of Barry Neville White and Tom Dalton.
He 'is a half-brother to Scandal, an extremely promising galloper in Sydney. Little Slindy is by GreyPortal from Manera by Granfel Star. The colt offered today was her second foal and he went to the bid of J. Foote Bloodstock. Brisbane. Foote Bloodstock were also the purchasers of a colt by Taipan II from the lightly-raced Le Filou mare. Filene. Sold on behalf of Mrs B. K. Saunders of Drury for $23,000, the colt is a halfbrother to Silver Kiwi, the winner of 11 races in Australia and to Cardinal Classic. who also met with success across the Tasman.
Sydney trainer. Paul Sutherland, paid $25,000 to secure a striking chestnut son of Aythorpe offered on behalf of Mr K. R. Best of Wellington.
The colt is from Chantille, by Sovereign Edition from Meanda, by Gabador. Chantille, which was placed in Australia, is a sister to Andros, the third highest ranked two-year-old of his year and winner of the V.A.T.C. Sandown Guineas. A final bid of $28,000 was not enough to buy the chestnut colt by Aythorpe from the former good race mare Heaven Bless, by Patron Saint. He was put up for auction by Mr W. A. Croudis of Pukekohe.
The Australasian breeding stables of Palmerston North turned down a bid of $26,000 for a colt by Marceau from Royal Velvet, by Ruling from the Alcimmedes mare Velveteen, from Foxona.
The sale began very slowly. Only a handful of those offered during the morning session changed hands, with most of those offered failing to reach vendors reserves. Selling picked up noticeably during the afternoon, but the pass rate remained high and at the end of the day’s selling slightly less than 50 per cent of those offered had been sold.
Altogether 117 lots were offered, with 57 selling for a total of $468,800. The average of $8225 was up approximately' $BOO from the corresponding sale last year and comparable with the horses in training sale at Ellerslie last week.
