Code for infant formulae
Parliamentary reporter A New Zealand infant formulae manufacturers' and marketers’ association draft of a New, Zealand code of practice for the marketing of infant formulae has been produced. The Minister of- Health, Mr Malcolm, said it had been produced in draft form as a basis for consideration. It had not yet been the subject of consultation with women's groups or consumer organisations outside the industry, he told Mrs Ann Hercus (Lab., Lyttelton) in reply to a question in Parliament. The intention had been, as
a first step, to obtain some agreement between the Government and the manufacturers of the product. It was intended that when the agreement on a draft New Zealand code was reached, the matter would be put to consumer and other organisations for consideration. There was no reference in the code to ethical marketing and packaging in Third World countries, said Mr Malcolm. The draft haa Deen urawo up to cover the marketing of infant formulae in New Zealand.—
