The former world champion driver, Denny Hulme. is eligible to win the Rookie of the Year award in the James Hardie 1000 in Australia next month.

The former “king" of the grand prix circuits will make his first appearance at Mt Panorama, in Bathhurst, New South Wales, on Sunday, October 3. This makes him eligible for the $2OOO Rookie award made each year to the Bathhurst first-timer who finishes highest in outright placings, irrespective of age or qualifications.

Hulme's most serious rivals among the 64 contestants include three drivers less than half his age. He is also opposed by another world champion driver, the Australian. Alan Jones, the 1980 Formula One winner.
