N.Z. tops the national parks area stakes
Parliamentary reporter New Zealand is better off' for national parks and reserves than Australia, Britain, and the United States, according to figures released by the Minister of Lands. Mr'Elworthy. Replying to a question in Parliament, Mr Elworthy said that United Nations statistics showed that New
Zealand had 100 national parks and reserves. They covered 2.6 million hectares, or 10 per cent of the country's land area.
In Australia, national parks and reserves covered 4 per cent of the land area. The figure for Great Britain was 6 per cent, and 5 per cent in the United States.
