Schools’ music
Sir. — I would like to express through your columns the gratitude that I, and undoubtedly a tremendous number of people, feel for all those involved in the recent Festival of Music presented in the Town Hall by the primary and intermediate schools of Christchurch. It was one of the most moving, colourful and refreshing musical experiences of a lifetime. The -almost professional expertise of the massed orchestras and choirs reflects great credit on the teachers and parents while the enthusiastic, cheerful, controlled exuberance of those hundreds of children had to be seen and heard to be believed. The city fathers can be justly proud not only of having built such a magnificent Town Hall, but also for having provided this ideal setting to demonstrate the discipline and glorious talent of so many hundreds of the city’s youth. — Yours, etc.,
J. J. BEBAN. September 24, 1982.
