‘Our Bodies Ourselves’

Women’s health will be discussed in depth at a oneday seminar today at Hagley High School. Called “Our Bodies Ourselves,” after the book of the same name, by Norma Swenson, the' seminar aims to examine directions being taken in women’s health, and the various alternative treatments and methods being used. Norma Swenson, who belongs to the Boston Women’s Health Collective, and her colleague, Agnes Norswegan,

are special guests at the seminar. Norma Swenson will speak about women's health this morning. Various workshops are being held on a variety of topics, ranging from premenstrual tension, self-de-fence, massage, pregnancy and childbirth, rape, battered women, yoga, mastectomy, acupuncture and tai chi, and health for women over 40. About 150 to 200 women are expected to attend the seminar which begins at 9 a.m. and costs 54. People

attending are asked to bring their own . lunch. There is a pot luck dinner in the evening for anyone wishing to stay. Norma Swenson has come to Christchurch after attending the New Zealand Women’s Health Network conference in Auckland last week-end. A national network of women health workers was launched at the conference, which was attended by about 750 women.
