Shell Trophy challenge
If Counties fails in its Ranfurly Shield bid today, it might be tempted to stay together through the summer and have a crack at the Shell Trophy. Yesterday the side had its final run at Denton Park, but
for almost all of its two hours there it played cricket, not rugby. A game was held between the backs and the forwards, with the forwards winning convincingly. There was, in fact, some- very good cricket.
in terms of batting, bowling and fielding. The photo above shows the Counties captain. Andy Dalton, pulling a ball to leg. In the slips is the man Canterbury will have to keep a close eye on today — Bruce
Robertson. Can cricket be some newfangled way of preparing for a big rugby match? “Not at all,” said the Coun-. ties coach, Mr Pat Walsh. “The team is ready; we are just relaxing today." .
