Backmarkers appeal in Stakes at Methven

Steady Edition and Hydro Light have shown sufficient ability so far this season to overcome their handicaps of 10m and 20m respectively and play a prominent part in the finish of the T. S. Harrison Three-year-old Stakes at Methven today.
These two talented young pacers have met twice at Addington Raceway. On the first occasion Hydro Light beat Steady Edition quite convincingly. Last week, Steady Edition reversed the decision, winning by only half a neck, but with a fair amount in hand. He has had but two race starts and is expected to show further sharp improvement.' Hydro Light has in his favour the fact that he is a speedy beginner. His handicap is unlikely to prove insurmountable, but he could encounter difficulties getting through or round a big field down to start from the front. Sneaky Adam and Bee El are two likely improvers. Sneaky Adam finished a rea-,
sonable third to Steady Edition last week and he will only have to improve a little on that effort to ' be one of the hardest to beat. Bee El, an easy winner at the Addington trials on Wednesday, looks to be close to winning form. He finished
third in his two starts last term, the most recent being behind Lyndon Robert in the Sapling Stakes on June 5. That placing could be a pointer to a big run today. Chataway, Roydon Wonder, Wychingham Knight and Nardin Prince could be the
pick of the remainder, but it will not surprise if Magpie races prominently. Magpie has had only one race start, meeting trouble when travelling well at Addington on August 28. Her performance at trials suggests that she might not be out of her depth in this field.
