Place in N.Z. soccer squad at stake
A place in New Zealand's Junior World Cup soccer squad will be at stake for 10 Canterbury players in New Plymouth this week-end. The players will be part of the South Island squad which is competing in the national under-19 soccer .tournament against teams from the northern and central regions. A national junior squad is expected to be named after the tournament. The South Island, which will be captained by the national under-19 skipper, Ceri Evans, of Christchurch, has the experience to improve on the two'o-1 losses it suffered last year. Apart from a defender. Duncan Baxter, all the Canterbury players competed in the previous tournament, and the Canterbury 10 are all regulars of Hertz regional league level. The South Island manager, Mr Terry Mann, of Christchurch. says the squad has strengths in all areas and should perform well at the tournament. The squad is: Neil Caswell. Duncan Baxter,. Peter McFaul, Ceri Evans, Simon Millichip. Scott Sinclair, Andrew Rutledge, Alan Munro, Simon Myers, Tim Pearson (Canterbury); Darren Munroe, Mark Paton, Martin Whitehead (Otago).
