Museum cafeteria
Sir,—As an Aucklander I read with interest the letter by Mrs Moffatt (September 7) on her experience at the. Auckland Airport cafeteria. Has she visited her own Canterbury Museum recently? I spent several hours there today and was very impressed and rather envious of the magnificent displays. But when it came to having a-cup of tea at the cafeteria I was in for a rude experience. For 50c the cafe produces a stewed-iip brew in an unbreakable cup (guess that saves the 10c insurance). At least Mrs Moffat got a pot to go with her tea. Then it was rather shattering on the nerves
when the shop assistant decided to reorganise the furniture with much clattering. The final indignity came from a large sign which asked customers to clear their own dishes from the table and place them on a trolley at the opposite end of the cafe. It is a pity that the museum could not have a more pleasant cafeteria in keeping with the rest of the environment. — Yours, etc., (MRS) E. ROBINSON. Drury, Auckland, September 8, 1982.
[Mr John C. Wilson, Director of the Canterbury Museum, replies: "I should like to thank Mrs Robinson for her generous remarks on the quality of our museum displays, and to say how sorry I am that she found our cafeteria fell short of these high standards. If I may say so. that would be a hard goal to achieve. I know, however, that ■the present licence- holders have worked hard to give the best service possible. I believe that the many thousands of our visitors who have had a cup of tea in our cafeteria would agree that, in general, they have succeeded."]
