some resistance and explosions and gunfire sounded in the areas where the Israelis were reported moving. The onlookers said that three Israeli tanks stood on the main road outside Beirut's sports stadium, a former guerrilla training base which was a prime target for the Israelis when they were bombarding Beirut in June, July and August.
