Multi-cultural activities
The Christchurch City Council's fledgling multi-cul-tural committee will aim more of its activities at the public from this month. A food fair will be combined with the "Sportarama" at Queen Elizabeth II Park next week-end. In October, activities celebrating world peace will be held in the Christchurch Polytechnic quadrangle. Nine ethnic groups represented on the council committee will prepare foods in stalls at Queen Elizabeth II Park next week-end. At the two-hour celebration on October 16. each
group will present a 15minute item that demonstrates how it understands the concept of peace. The presentations will use elements from their original cultures. The multi-cultural committee began to meet last year under the leadership of Ur Louisa Crawley. She said that closer relations between the council and ethnic and cultural groups were needed. Cr Crawley, a Samoan, brought together organisations ranging from the Christchurch Indian Association to the Irish National Society.
