Evert-Lloyd again
NZPA New York Chris Evert-Lloyd won her sixth United State's Open tennis title in the last eight years by routing Hana Mandlikova of Czechoslovakia 6-3, 6-1 in New York on Saturday. Her victory, matched the Australian. Margaret Court's six successes and left EvertLloyd, aged 27, two short of the" record eight singles triumphs achieved by Molla Mallory, more than 50 years ago. ( men's final for the first time since 1978 by defeating fourth-seeded Guillermo Vilas. of Argentina. 6-1. 3-6. 6-2. 6-3. The Wimbledon champion was to meet third seed Ivan Lendl of Czechoslovakia, in ■ the final early today. Lendl ; beat the three-time defending champion. John McEnroe. 6-4. 6-4. 7-6. McEnroe was as much to ; blame for his defeat as Lendl. His volleys were often long, and his serve, the key to his whole game, was off.
