Blenheim bloom top camellia
A camellia brought by car from Blenheim won the premier bloom award for Mrs Catherine Turnbull at the annual show of the Camellia Society's Canterbury branch. Her entry. Japonica Easter Morn, a pale pink bloom, beat 1324 other blooms. The camellias exhibited ranged in diameter from 4cm to 20cm. They attracted 2400 visitors to the Horticultural Hall during the weekend. The two Australian judges commented that flower standards were higher than
those at last week's national show in Rotorua. Increasingly popular lemon and yellow blooms supplemented the traditional white, pink and red varieties. Large reticulata camellias stood side by side with miniature blooms which are gaining favour with growers. Trophy were — Premier bloom. Mrs Turnbull. Best reticulata and reserve champion bloom. Mrs Joan Dillon. Australian Trophy for best hybrid. Mrs Doris Lock. Quarrell Trophy for best miniature. G. Wallis and Mrs Wallis.
