Escape from court
PA Rotorua A prisoner who escaped from the Rotorua courthouse yesterday morning was still at large late in the day. William Peter Karaitiana, aged 28, of Rotorua, ran .from the courthouse after being sentenced in the District Court to four months gaol for burgling a Christchurch hotel.-
Senior-Sergeant A. N. Hepburn said that when a constable’s attention was distracted in the cell area' separating the and High courts, the prisoner made his way up the stairs to the High Court and crossed the back of the courtroom.
He appeared to have made his way from the building through the front entrance. The police .were alerted when a reporter saw him crossing 'a street
