Bonnie Dunloe should improve

Special correspondent Wellington Bonnie Dunloe. the place favourite, and Dillon Foyle, the win favourite, were second and fourth respectively at the Wellington Trotting Club’s’ meeting in the Dulux Pace, on Saturday, but the duo could improve enough to fight out the finish of the Manthel Motors Pace, the first leg of the T.A.B. double at Hutt Park this evening. In the shocking conditions that prevailed. Bonnie Dunloe was run down by an outsider. Game Classic. The margins back to fourth were a neck, a length and a half and a long neck, so Dillon Foyle was not that far from success either. The distance this evening is the same, but hopefully weather conditions will be more suitable for racing. The forecast is better and the track yesterday had dried out a good deal. Though beaten. Bonnie Dunloe was far from disgraced. Back in the field she had to work to get near.the lead and after beating back the bids of Key Reward and Dillon Foyle, she only went under at the last. Dillon Foyle showed pace early and was right in contention almost to ' the end. The run was his first since June and he should be improved by it. This evening he will start from six. the most often successful barrier position at Hutt Park. Smooth Move and Dark Berry are the newcomers to the C2 ranks after the first evening of the meeting. Both won well enough and a win for Dark Berry would be significant for he is trained on the course. Key Reward turned in a good effort to get third on Saturday while some improvement could come from Pride of Beau and Onedin Star, both South Island representatives. In the second leg of the T.A.B. double, the Armstrong and Springhall Pace, Tread Softly looks the one to beat. The mare was last to finish at Franklin last month and she was at handy odds when she ran second behind Orient Pride on Saturday. She won a couple of races right at the end of last season and looks set now to be back in that good form. Vivid Rainbow improved on recent efforts to run third and she could improve further with a firmer track. Game Classic did well to win the C2 event on Saturday and he should not be far away at the finish again this evening. He will have a change of driver with Maurice McKendry booked for Eastwood Vision, the Templeton reinsman Jack Carmichael will handle Game Classic. With a much better draw this evening. Jet Set Magazine could show some improvement, while Dreamover and Sir Mark look the pick of the others.
