Education cuts
Sir.-So, the Government wants to cut back even more on research and education. This time the casualty is the Otago Clinical School. No doubt we could not afford the improved medical service their
research could have given us anyway. The problem is that any cut to research or education is a "cut now. pay later" system, which is fine for this present Government’s book balancing, but, as in any “pay later” scheme, the human costs later are much higher than the financial savings now. It is time the Government in general. and the Minister of Health in particular, realised that we cannot afford to cut back anv more.—Yours, etc., ANNE WIGNALL. September 1, 1982.
