Parents can pay
PA Wellington Most parents could afford the increase in School Certificate fees, the Minister of Education, Mr Wellington, has said. ; Answering a question by Labour’s Shadow Minister, of Education, Mr C. R. Marshall, who said most pupils would have to pay more than $4O to sit the examination, Mr Wellington said the rise was necessary because of higher costs.
The Government's difficulty lay in the rising cost of holding the examination, particularly in paying examiners, moderators, and supervisors. , "In 1980, that cost was $1.6 million. It is estimated this year at $2.1 million,” Mr Wellington said.
