‘Litter' rate on food bars?
PA Auckland The Mayor of the south Auckland borough of Papatoetoe, Mr Robert White, wants to make local takeaway bars meet the cost of cleaning up litter left by their patrons. He favours introducing a new differential rate for fastfood premises, and the council will debate the idea soon. Mr White said packaging from takeaway bars made up a fairly high percentage of litter on city streets, and the new rate would be fair “user pays’ system to clean up the problem.
