Sovereign retired
The 1978 New Zealand Derby winner, Sovereign, is to stand the coming stud season at • the Poplar Lane Lodge Stud, Ashburton. A well-performed three-year-old, when he won six races, Sovereign was lightlyraced in the last two seasons because of injury. TJie son of Bachelor Hanover and the smart racemare, Royal Belmer (lmin 58.85), he served six mares last season but this will be his first public season. A half-brother to the tightclass mare, Royal Decision, Sovereign is a descendant of the Purple Patch family. He will command a first-season fee of $4OO.
