Abnormal heartbeats in a horse are listened for by Penny Ferguson, aged 18, of New South Wales, at the Canterbury Equine Clinic in Christchurch. With her is Mr Peter Gillespie, a veterinarian at the clinic. Penny is a member of the Marcus Oldham Farm Management College, a horse management course based in Geelong, Victoria, which ended a three-week tour of New Zealand on Thursday observing stud farms. The course has been established for four years and takes up to 20 students in each 12-month programme. The trip to New Zealand is made each year along with an interstate tour in Australia.
