Random reminder
EPILOGUE Surveying the window broken in the previous night’s misadventure, (see Random Reminder yesterday), our Man about Town decided to save some money and do the repairs himself. A self-confessed ‘‘inches and feet” man, on this occasion he decided to present a more professional image by quoting the size he wanted in metrics. Unfortunately, he had miscalculated somewhat and the glass was much too long. Unwilling to go back to the supplier and confess, he bought a glass cutter from his local hardware store, received a little instruction in its use
and took off to exercise his newlyacquired skills. Carefully, he re-measured the pane of glass, placed it on a suitable surface and nonchalantly, but firmly, drew the glass cutter along to make a satisfactory scratch mark on the surface. Placing a piece of wood along the cut, he gave it a sharp crack with spectacular results. The whole pane shattered. He has now decided to stick to the old imperial system of measurements and is seeking a buyer for a little-used glass cutter. He has also placed a spare key where he can be sure to find it... under the garden furniture. ______
