Nelson fire fighters hurt
Nelson reporter Two Forest Service men were injured when fighting a scrub fire on Jenkins Hill, Nelson, early last evening. Both men, whose names were not available last evening, were injured when a Forest Service fire engine rolled over while descending the hill. They were taken out by stretcher to the road where an ambulance took them to Nelson Hospital. Their conditions were not available last evening.
About 100 men from the Fire Service, local, authorities,' the Forest Service, and a private forest company, battled the fire in heavy scrub. The fire began as a controlled burn-off but when the wind shifted early in the afternoon, it raced away over several fronts. . Fire fighters were trying to stop its spread into the adjacent Marsden Valley and into a stand of spruce trees on the eastern flank.
