South African policy

Sir,—HART keeps attacking all white South Africans, our police, our Government and now Mrs Sutherland; but no amount of argument will ever shift the responsibility for the

bitterness, violence and unnecessary expenditure of $7.2 million last year. The violent, illegal tactics of HART — damaging property, blocking highways, screaming obscenities — necessitated augmented police numbers and use of batons. No small minority should ever be permitted forcibly and illegally to prevent the rest from making their own moral decisions and that is just what HART attempted but happily failed to do. In HART, as in other organisations, the extreme Left has worked on the sympathies of decent, sincere people to create sharp division, strife and violence and its baneful influence is apparent in unions, schools, universities, churches and media, setting employees against employers, women against men. children against parents and one race against the other—Yours, etc.. E. MULCOCK. August 24, 1982.
