Money needed at Anakiwa
The. Outward Bound Trust has stepped up-the fundraising campaign to rebuild its complex at Anakiwa in Queen Charlotte Sound. The $1 million project was launched two years ago by Lady Cobham. Four watchhouses have since been completed and the main dining hall will be ready for use next month. Tenders have been let for the building of the wardens' lodge, but the trust needs almost $300,000 to complete the project. - The - Canterbury Associa-
tion has set itself a fundraising target of $15,000. It has already contributed $25,000 toward the programme. ’ The association wants the funds . channelled into the improvement of a property known--.-as Te Kianga in Torea Bay. The aim would be to build permanent facilities for the disabled and to have the building endowed as Canterbury Lodge. The first of its fund-raising activities will be an "adventure play day’’ to be held on
August 21, at the Bishopdale Mall car-park. Children will be invited to build "anything they choose from cars to castles" out of rope, cardboard, timber, and tyres. The materials will be supplied by local companies. The event will be aimed at schoolchildren but there will also be produce stalls. Local groups wishing to set up booths can do so by arrangement with the association. Admission of 50c will be charged for children participating.
