New abortion clinic
Sir,—lt is unfortunate my comments at a meeting of the health services committee of the board were riot reported in full,, and that Mr Watson (August 19) interpreted them as he did. What I did say was that it could be prejudicial to publicinterest but, more important, could cause unnecessary personal embarrassment if the site for the proposed freestanding abortion clinic was announced at this stage. The reason was that the. site, is a domestic , residence, which is occupied privately, and I am sure Mr Watson would agree that it could cause unnecessary personal embarrassment to the occupants of the house if the location were disclosed before the house was vacated. The project is at an early stage, and decisions have to be made concerning the alterations to the house, the staffing levels in the clinic, and how the project is to be financed, both by capital costs and ongoing operating costs.—Yours, etc., MRS L. C. GARDINER. August 19, 1982.
