Air N.Z. still selling $1650 fare to London

PA Auckland Air New Zealand is still selling its $1650 fare to London. in spite of reports that the Government will have the cut price withdrawn. A spokesman for the airline said yesterday, "We have heard nothing,’ and as. far as we are concerned, the fare is still available." In Wellington, the Secretary for Transport, Mr A. J. Healy, said that talks were still ’ going on with the Americans, who have threat-, ened to stop the straightthrough flights from Auckland to London via Los Angeles unless other airlines are allowed to offer the low fare. “I am making no further comment. It would not be helpful to the cause." Mr Healy said. The $1650 promotion fare is available from August 25. and the return flight must be' completed by the end of November. Air New Zealand declined to comment on what would happen to the fares already paid if the services did not go ahead. The situation had. not arisen, and unless it did the airline would not comment. the spokesman However, it is believed that the clause, subject to Government approval, that went with the ticket is a safeguard against loss of money paid on the fare. Those inquiring about the fare have been told they will not lose if the fare is abandoned.
