20 p.c. lift in Canty Park October Stakes

The Canterbury Park Trotting Club has increased stakes by 20 per cent for its three meetings to be run in October. The stakes for feature races at the club’s other four meetings this season will be reviewed when programmes are framed, according to the president, Mr Bob Duff. Stakes for normal schedule races to be run by Canterbury Park will be well ahead of those paid by the other two clubs racing at Addington Raceway, mainly due to enthusiastic support from a large group of sponsors. The minimum increase applied to the three meetings is $450, which brings the stake for an event for four-year-olds to $3600. Most other stakes in sup-

porting races at the club’s d rugby clubs’ meetings on s October 6 and 13, and the a other meeting on October 22 r have been increased by $5OO, s with ever bigger rises for the s main events on each pro--1 gramme. - Maiden horses will now - race for $2700, an increase of $5OO over last year’s cor- : responding meetings. Horses ■ on Cl will race for $2900 (up 1 $500), C2 horses for $3300 (up r $550), C 3 horses for $3700 (up - $550) and C 4 horses for $4lOO > (up $500). i The fastest class front at the meetings on October 6 ■ and 13 will be C 5, which will > carry a stake of $5OOO (up : $1000). The club will again run a race with a C 8 front at its meeting on October 22. The stake for this event has been increased $lOOO and will be worth $7500. The stake for the Canterbury Park Four-year-old Stakes the same night will be

i $7OOO, an increase of $l5OO ; over last year. Ordinary races for three-year-old pacers included in the three programmes will be worth $3250, an increase of $650. The three programmes have yet to be approved by the Trotting Conference.
